For more than 10 years now, I have been attending the Jazz In The Woods festival sponsored by Corporate Woods in Overland Park Kansas. Each year they feature some of the best names around in the genres of smooth jazz, nu jazz and traditional jazz. Jazz In The Woods is a free event sponsored by the Overland Park South Rotary Club. this wonderful organization raises money for local charities such as, the Future of Hope Fund, Love Fund for Children and Operation Breakthrough. Each of these organizations help children with special needs and general with general needs, such as clothing, food and shelter. Jazz In The Woods has been an event in Overland Park for more than 20 years.
This year for the first time I sat close to the stage. There was plenty of room and lots happening. The intro band, one of my favorites that I listen to on my iPod, is 480 East. They are a band that is in the genre of nu jazz or acid jazz. Staten Island Groove, a favorite song of many was played and they jammed our socks off. There were two headliners, Norman Brown and Richard Elliot. Norman Brown is a well known jazz guitarist whom I have listened to for many years. Richard Elliot is a saxaphonist who plays with every ounce of his being.
All in all, it was a wonderful concert. The music was fantastic and it was a lot of fun seeing these guys play live.
