On Blogging

I read a post today via the Copyblogger site and the plan for this year became more clear than ever before. The article speaks of being a cowardly lion and learning how to roar. Everyday we as writers get up and face a fear. The fear is about whether or not someone will read what we write. But not only that we wonder if they will like it. We put blood, sweat and tears into what we do. Sometimes it’s a burst of energy, a compulsion to say something or express a feeling. Other times its a response to something that we’ve read, just like this post. Whatever the case, we write for the love of it and find a way to overcome the fear of whether or not anyone will like or appreciate what we are doing.

I started down the road to blogging in 2010 with no clear path. I just wanted to test the waters and see what would happen. Well, as fate would have it, I love doing it. So much has come from it. I have made new friends and networked with others who enjoy blogging just like me. As a writer I realized I’m not alone. Everyone that I have encountered has the same doubts and fears about their writing. Stephen King said in his book “On Writing” that writers are readers. Which makes blogging all the more necessary for me and so many others. We’re are not alone. Blogging helps us to learn, engage, and grow within ourselves and with our writing.

If you are a Neophyte Writer and you are aware that building an online presence is necessary for a plethora of reasons, but you are still afraid of getting out there, don’t be. I’m here to help along with many others. Taking the first steps are the hardest for anything that causes fear. But knowledge is power and the internet is powerful. Use it, learn from it, network through it. As a result you will conquer your fear and make a friend in the process.
